Personalized Insights, Collective Impact? Findings from Field Experiments on Resource Conservation

In this talk, I present findings from my doctoral studies on behavioral interventions for pro-environmental behavior. The first study applies a Robust Bayesian Meta-Analysis to digital green nudges, gauging their overall—publication bias-adjusted—efficacy and determining whether personalized approaches outperform generic ones. The second study details the design and evaluation of a weekly app-based feedback system on resource consumption in a longitudinal framed field experiment with 954 self-selected international tenants in Berlin who pay an all-inclusive rent, thus removing indirect monetary incentives. The third study examines a natural field experiment involving nearly 70,000 German households receiving mandated monthly heating energy reports over the heating season, enabling a real-world assessment of feedback interventions. I conclude by highlighting the key challenges and potential future directions at the interface of information systems and behavioral science.
