Ute Frevert is new President of the Max Weber Foundation

She is the first woman to head the foundation.

Ute Frevert has taken over the presidency of the Max Weber Foundation (MWS) from the sinologist Hans van Ess. "The institutes of the Max Weber Foundation are proud beacons of the German humanities around the world and should remain so. I wish to contribute to this, and I look forward to doing so," Ute Frevert said before taking office. She is the first woman to head the MWS. As president, she plans to strengthen transnational cooperation among the institutes abroad and increase the Foundation's visibility in the political arena.

The Max Weber Foundation promotes research with a focus on the fields of history, cultural studies, economics and social sciences in selected countries and thus promotes mutual understanding. It currently maintains eleven institutes worldwide as well as other research groups and offices.
