Zoe Ngo part of the 2024 Jacobs Foundation LEVANTE Program
The Learning Variability Network Exchange (LEVANTE) is a global initiative focused on advancing our understanding of children’s learning variability

Zoe Ngo, Head of the Emmy Noether Research Group „RAVEN” (Real-world Applications of Variability in Episodic memory and Neurodevelopment),is part of the first Cohort of the 2024 Jacobs Foundation LEVANTE Program and is the Principal Investigator at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. Her team studies how changes in memory and brain function shape children’s ability to remember meaningful experiences and links memory growth to other aspects of cognitive and social development.
A key component of the project is the integration of laboratory research with real-world data. Ngo’s group plans to use wearable technologies to track memory development in everyday settings, aiming to inform the development of tailored educational tools, particularly for children from diverse backgrounds.
The LEVANTE Program—short for Learning Variability Network Exchange—brings together research teams from around the world. Each site will contribute data using coordinated methodologies, allowing for cross-country comparisons and shared insights. The goal is to build an evidence base that can support more flexible and inclusive education systems.
With its selection, the Max Planck Institute for Human Development (MPIB), as one of six international institutions participating in the 2024 LEVANTE Program, joins a broader international effort to better understand learning differences and to inform education policy and practice with data-driven research.
