Karl Ulrich Mayer receives Doctor Honoris Causa

The European University Institute (EUI) awards this prize to distinguished scholars

Karl Ulrich Mayer, Director emeritus of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Stanley B. Resor emeritus Professor of Sociology at Yale University, has received the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the European University Institute, the leading institute in Europe dedicated to social sciences and humanities.

The honorary doctorate is awarded annually to distinguished scholars who have considerably contributed during their academic careers in the field of economics, law, political and social sciences, history, and civilization.

Karl Ulrich Mayer headed the Center for Sociology and the Study of Life Course at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. His main research interests concern social stratification and mobility, comparative analyses of social structures, sociology of the life course, and structures and processes of education and the labor market.
