Christina Leuker, postdoc in the Center for Adaptive Rationality at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, was awarded the de Finetti Award of the European Association for Decision Making (EADM). Every two years, the EADM honors outstanding scientific publications in the field of decision making written by Phd students. In her dissertation, Christina Leuker shows how (and why) risks and rewards are tied in the human mind. Across a wide range of decisions, people infer that the high rewards they desire are usually unlikely to occur. People can learn such statistical associations from their choice environments.
