Unstatistik team awarded for their book
Gerd Gigerenzer, Director Emeritus at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Director of the Harding Center for Risk Literacy at the University of Potsdam, has received together with Thomas Bauer, Walter Krämer and Katharine Schüller the getAbstract International Book Award 2023 for the book Grüne fahren SUV und Joggen macht unsterblich. Über Risiken und Nebenwirkungen der Unstatistik. The authors have been publishing the Unstatistik des Monats since 2012, in which they critically scrutinize statistics and their interpretation in the media. The book is the result of this collaboration.
The Jury member Peter Lau from brandeins also thinks: "Statistics are extremely important for everything: to understand the world, to make economic and personal progress, to improve the climate and social development. Despite this, almost nobody is interested in it. And even fewer people really understand it. This book can change that, so please read it!"
getAbstracted offers summaries of business-relevant topics and screens every year, in cooperation with brandeins, more than 10,000 non-fiction titles in English and German from the previous year. A total of four books in four categories and two languages were honored.
