In Memoriam Paul B. Baltes

* June 18, 1939  † November 7, 2006

Paul B. Baltes was the Director of the Center for Lifespan Psychology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development from 1980 to 2004. In 2004 he founded the Max Planck International Research Network on Aging (MaxNetAging). He was also Honorary Professor of Psychology at the Free University of Berlin and (part-time) Distinguished Professor of Psychology und Advanced Study Fellow at the University of Virginia.

Honors and Awards (Selection)

  • German Psychology Award 1994
    The Christoph Dornier Foundation established the "Deutscher Psychologie Preis" to promote scientific research in the field of psychology. The award is conferred jointly by the "Berufsverband Deutscher Psychologinnen und Psychologen (BDP)" [Professional Association of German Psychologists] and the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie (DGPs)" [German Psychological Society].
  • Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology 1995
    The Committee on International Relations in Psychology confers this award to individuals who have made sustained and enduring contributions to international cooperation and advancement of knowledge in psychology.
  • Award for a Lifetime of Outstanding Scientific Work 2005

Margret M. and Paul B. Baltes Foundation
After his first wife's death in 1999 Paul B. Baltes established the Margret M. Baltes Foundation to promote their common goal of advancing lifespan developmental and gerontological research. After his death in 2006 it was renamed Margret M. and Paul B. Baltes Foundation. more
