German Children Title Recognition Test (K-TRT)

The German Children Title Recognition Test (K-TRT) is a method to measure children's print exposure.

It is an updated German Version of the children title recognition test (Cunningham & Stanovich, 1990) which is commonly used for English children. In the test, children mark titles they know out of a list of children's books. To avoid guessing, the list also contains false titles. The testscore is calculated by subtracting the false hits from the correct ones.

We tested the K-TRT in two large studies and found that it is reliable and measures differences between children very well. Furthermore it seems to detect book knowledge of children specifically because adults performed worse than children. Also, books that are sold more often are identified better.
