GerTRuD.info is launched - first twin register online!

The website of the first German twin register went online in August. The register is an initiative of the Research Center for Environmental Neuroscience at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development (MPIB) and its cooperation partners (Tübingen University Hospital, Bremen University, Bielefeld University, Medical School Hamburg, Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics and Saarland University) and was launched in 2022.
With the register, the Environmental Neuroscience Research Unit aims to create an opportunity for researchers to investigate the effects of the physical environment on the individual. It is assumed that the complexity of environmental factors has a decisive influence on the plasticity of the brain and changes in behaviour. This means that by excluding genetic variations in twins, scientists try to draw conclusions about the influence and relationship of environmental factors.
The main focus of the twin studies is on the different factors of urban life and their effects on the human brain, behaviour and mental health. Based on these findings, the aim is to develop recommendations that sustainably promote and strengthen people's physical and mental well-being.
Twins in particular are invaluable to science due to their unique genetic similarities. Their participation will help research answer important questions in areas such as health, social inequality, personal preferences and public equality. Interested twins can register themselves or their guardians via the registration form on the website.
Are you a twin or do you know twins?
