Student Assistant (m/f/d) in the Max Planck Research Group Biosocial for approximately 40 hours per month beginning September or October 2025

The Max Planck Research Group “Biosocial – Biology, Social Disparities, and Development” (MPRG Biosocial) is located at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin (MPIB) and takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying the effects of social inequality on human development at multiple biological and psychological levels led by principal investigator Dr. Laurel Raffington.

The MPRG Biosocial is seeking an organized and motivated student assistant (m/f/d) to join our team. This role involves providing proactive, individualized support in science coordination and administration. Key responsibilities include compiling scientific activity reports, onboarding new team members, managing internal processes, and supporting international research collaborations. You will gather targeted information for scientific evaluations and reports, assist with job advertisements, and manage logistics for research collaborations. Additionally, you'll support third-party funding applications and reports, collaborating closely with colleagues from the administration and other service units of the Institute.

The working hours for this position are approximately 40 hours per month, with flexible scheduling. The hourly rate is €15,18 for students in bachelor's programs and €15,84 for students in master's programs. Applicants should be able to commit to this position for at least 1.5 years.

Tasks may include:

  • Assist in coordinating international research collaboration agreements
  • Assist in organizing an international conference
  • Assist in compiling scientific activity reports and lists
  • Supporting our team members in finding information and complying with internal processes
  • Support with administrative tasks related to personnel and material applications and e-procurement
  • Handling complex travel expenses
  • Proofreading: e.g. websites, ethics applications, research proposals, dissertations, as well as the research report of the MPIB
  • Update webpage
  • Translations from English to German
  • E-mail correspondence with internal and external offices
  • Support with recruitment processes
  • Support with onboarding new team members
  • General organizational tasks, e.g. creating task lists and schedules, making reservations
  • Careful documentation/filing
  • Participation in organizational team meetings

We are looking for:

  • A student enrolled at a German University in courses such as: administrative sciences, public administration, work and organizational psychology, communications, or related fields
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both German and English
  • Interest in intercultural communication
  • Interest in empirical research
  • High level of social competence
  • Strong commitment and reliability, attention to detail
  • Strong organisational problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Applicants should be able to commit to this position for at least 1.5 years.
