Iyad Rahwan is among the top 100 minds in Berlin science 2023

Iyad Rahwan, director of the Center for Humans and Machines at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, is among the 100 most important minds in Berlin science 2023. The award is presented by the Tagesspiegel editorial team and recognizes personalities whose research lays the foundations for tomorrow's innovations.
Iyad Rahwan is one of the world's most important experts on the question of how artificial intelligence (AI) changes the way we think, learn or work – the Tagesspiegel explains its decision. The behavior of AI is one of his core topics and is being investigated, for example, in the project The Face Game. The Citizen Science project explores which face AI would give itself in human-machine interaction.
Iyad Rahwan is director of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, where he founded and directs the Center for Humans & Machines. He is an honorary professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Technical University of Berlin. Until June 2020, he was an Associate Professor of Media Arts & Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Rahwan holds a Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is also a cartoonist and artist. With his art, he aims to educate and stimulate discussion about the societal impacts of artificial intelligence.
