Open Science and Research Data Management Guidelines

The Institute’s Open Science and Research Data Management Guidelines were launched in fall 2025.

These guidelines are designed to:

  • strengthen transparency, reproducibility, and long-term reusability of high-quality research;
  • demonstrate support and appreciation for corresponding practices;
  • reflect the methodological diversity of MPIB research through practical, adaptable guidance;
  • support researchers in meeting funding mandates and journal requirements;
  • ensure compliance with national and international standards (e.g., the FAIR principles or the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science).

The guidelines consist of two parts: a strategic document outlining the Institute’s goals and principles and an implementation plan providing clear recommendations for researchers.

They foster responsible science across research centers and groups, helping researchers through the entire process—from planning to publication, in particular when working with data.
