Cognitive biases in mental disorders: From evidence to intervention
Abstract:

Cognitive biases, encompassing attentional bias toward aversive cues, negative expectancies, and biased interpretation of ambiguity, are core features of psychopathology. Elucidating the underlying neurocognitive mechanisms is critical for advancing theoretical models and clinical interventions. This presentation examines the neurocognitive basis of emotional biases across healthy and clinical populations. First, biases in interpersonal distance estimation and preference within social anxiety and autism are investigated. Subsequently, a comprehensive task battery integrated with machine learning is introduced as a diagnostic support tool for predicting comorbid anxiety and depression symptoms. Finally, meta-analytic findings regarding moderators of cognitive training effectiveness are reviewed. Collectively, these results indicate that cognitive biases offer valuable biomarkers for diagnosing psychopathology and for developing personalized cognitive interventions. These findings will be discussed in the framework of shared mechanisms of emotion and cognition.
