LIP-Biosocial External Colloquium:Riccardo Marioni University of Edinburgh, will present:
"Epigenetic biomarkers of the environment, lifestyle and disease"
Abstract:
I will introduce Generation Scotland, a family-based cohort of ~20,000 individuals recruited across Scotland (aged 18–99 years at recruitment), with longitudinal linkage to health records and extensive multi-omics data. More recently, we recruited an additional 11,000 volunteers (aged 12-99 years) using remote saliva sampling alongside online questionnaires. We have generated DNA methylation profiles from blood or saliva samples for nearly all participants, including 4,000 longitudinal saliva samples. I will then present recent work investigating blood-based DNA methylation in relation to incident disease outcomes and environmental pollution exposure. Finally, I will share saliva-based findings relating to biological ageing, smoking, and vaping behaviours.
