Brandeis University Online Event: German Women Writing Women's History – A Conversation with Ute Frevert and Vera Weidenbach

Join Brandeis University's Center for German and European Studies for a celebration of women’s history month with two German authors who have done a lot to bring attention to women’s history. How does one change the narrative about the past so it becomes inclusive of many different experiences? What lessons does women’s history teach us about women’s struggles, resilience, and achievements? How does a deeper look at women’s history change our understanding of history altogether?

About the Speakers:

Ute Frevert is a modern historian and director at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Berlin where she has established the Center for the History of Emotions. Before, she was Professor of History at Yale University as well as at the universities of Berlin, Konstanz, and Bielefeld. Since the 1970s, she has been a feminist. In 1986, she published the long-selling book „Frauengeschichte“ which was translated as Women in German History (1989).

Vera Weidenbach Vera Weidenbach is a freelance author and journalist based in Berlin. As a reporter she writes about national German politics. Her book “Die unerzählte Geschichte - Wie Frauen die moderne Welt erschufen und warum wir sie nicht kennen” was published in September. She studied Philosophy, Biology and Politics at Humboldt University in Berlin and King’s College London before attending jourmalism school in Munich.
