Long Night of the Sciences 2022

After a three-year break, the Max Planck Institute for Human Development finally opened its doors again on July 2, 2022 as part of the Long Night of the Sciences 2022 (#LNDW22). More than 600 visitors, from toddlers to seniors, attended the many booths, lectures, hands-on activities, and guided tours. The event was a great success for the Institute.

Are we getting smarter while we sleep? Will we soon be able to read minds? How can we detect false and misleading information? What is artificial intelligence? How do babies and toddlers learn about our environment? How global are emotions? These were just some of the diverse questions that awaited the visitors at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development.

During numerous hands-on activities, the visitors could experience how the researchers of our research centers and groups work and exchange ideas directly with them. Exciting and diverse lectures provided insights into central research questions and during the guided tours they could get to know the fascinating architecture of the building, the plant diversity in the Institute's garden and the library magazine. Our younger guests also got their fun out of numerous hands-on activities. Many children went on a discovery tour of our Institute in a children's rally and collected stamps, which they could then exchange for a goody bag full of surprises.  Find the kids’ programme here (mostly in German). Robots were painted, own zoos were put together, VR journeys to the moon were taken, and 80 emotions were used to travel around the world.

There was a continuous English-language program (English-language offering) for our international guests, and our cafeteria had its doors and pots open for all during the entire evening.
