Research Areas

In the Center for Adaptive Rationality, we study how simple decision-making strategies—so-called heuristics—and cognitive search and learning help people to navigate the twilight of uncertainty in a constantly changing world. We further investigate how these cognitive processes develop over the lifespan. Informed by insights from our research, we propose heuristics and environmental changes that can empower citizens, patients, doctors, and policy makers to make better decisions.

The psychologists, computer scientists, biologists, neuroscientists, and philosophers in our research group address these questions using a variety of methods, including behavioral experiments, computer simulations, mathematical analyses, and neuroscientific tools.
