Philipp Lorenz-Spreen, Research Scientist in the Center for Adaptive Rationality, has been awarded the Leopoldina Prize for Young Scientists. His research focuses on human behavior in online environments. His research goal is to explore how behavioral sciences can promote democratic discourse in a networked society. He wants to change online environments in ways that empower their users to make informed and autonomous decisions. He also investigates how the dynamics of collective attention change on social media.

Since 2009, the Leopoldina has awarded the prize twice a year to young scientists whose dissertation was completed no more than five years ago and who have demonstrated remarkable achievement. Thanks to the support of the Leopoldina Akademie Freundeskreis e.V., two scientists can be awarded the prize each year since 2015.
