Bold – How do children remember experiences?

A BOLD article shows how memory develops in childhood and why children process experiences differently.

How do children remember the important things in their lives? In the BOLD article, Zoe Ngo, Research Group Leader of the Emmy Noether Group RAVEN, and Predoctoral Fellow Pedro Espinosa‑Villafranca, describe their research approach to studying the development of memory processes in childhood. They show that children not only store individual experiences but also build general knowledge from repeated events.
In their research, they examine how closely these memory abilities are linked to other skills such as language, attention, and reasoning. Their findings highlight that children of the same age can differ considerably in how well they remember—partly depending on their individual experiences and environmental influences.
