Georeferencing

"Georeferencing" describes the process of relating a specific location to its characteristics, for instance, people’s home address and the features of the surrounding environment. All sorts of maps and satellite images can be used to do this. We employ these methods, which are part of a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) approach, to objectively characterize residential settings, with regard, for example, to the amount of vegetation within a certain radius, average air pollution levels, or how long it takes to get to the nearest grocery store.
