The Center for Adaptive Rationality at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin seeks applicants for 1 Predoctoral Position on Search and Learning (m/f/d) (E 13 TVöD 65%; 39 hours/week).

The position is available from February 2023 onwards and is for 3 years.

The Position

The successful candidate will be part of the center’s research area Search and Learning headed by Dr. Dirk Wulff, and conduct research on the cognitive underpinnings of human learning and mental representation in laboratory and applied settings using computational methods. 

Your Profile

The successful candidate ideally has the following:

  • A MSc in psychology, cognitive science, computer science, or related fields.
  • Expertise in a programming language for data analytics, such as R or Python.
  • Strong skills in quantitative analysis and statistics.  
  • A commitment to open and reproducible science.
  • Interest in cognitive science, computational cognitive modeling, and artificial intelligence. 
  • High proficiency in English.
  • Good communication skills.

Our Offer

The successful applicant will be working in an interdisciplinary, integrative research team consisting of researchers from cognitive and information sciences. The Max Planck Institute for Human Development offers an excellent infrastructure including support staff and equipment for conducting research (incl. computer cluster). It provides an international research environment, with English being the working language of the Center for Adaptive Rationality.
