2 Postdoctoral Positions ERC Research Group (Spitzer)

Job Code: 12/2021

Job Offer from June 17, 2021

The ERC-funded Research Group Neural Dynamics of Working Memory at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, led by Dr. Bernhard Spitzer, seeks applicants for 2 Postdoctoral Positions (E 13 TVöD; 39 hours/week). The positions are available from January 1st, 2022.

Job description:

We are looking for candidates who will investigate the neural underpinnings of working memory (WM) processes using fMRI (position 1) and M/EEG/LFP (position 2) with model-based analysis approaches. The ERC project DeepStore seeks to understand the dynamic representational nature of WM, its interplay with long-term memory, and its development over the lifespan. The positions are for 3 years, with the possibility of extension.

Requirements:

Applicants need to hold (or expect to hold by January 2022) a doctorate in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, Computer Science, or related disciplines. Candidates should be experienced in designing, performing, analyzing, and disseminating experimental studies using fMRI (position 1) and/or EEG/MEG/LFP (position 2). A strong research interest in working memory and experience with multivariate analysis (RSA and decoding methods) will be highly beneficial. In addition, the ability to work independently, strong analytical skills, and high proficiency in English are essential. For further inquiries about the positions, please contact Bernhard Spitzer ().

The Max Planck Institute for Human Development (www.mpib-berlin.mpg.de) offers an excellent infrastructure including support staff and equipment for conducting experiments (e.g., behavioral laboratory, fMRI, EEG, TMS, and Eye-tracking). It provides an international research environment, with English being the working language.

The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds. The Max Planck Society is further committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.

Applicants should submit a cover letter describing research interests (max. 2 pages), curriculum vitae, and 1-2 representative papers (published or working paper). We kindly ask you to submit your application without a photo. Please send the materials as a single PDF file with your name as the file name to Bernhard Spitzer; Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Lentzeallee 94, 14195 Berlin, ().

In correspondence, please use “Postdoctoral Position WM-fMRI” (for position 1) or “Postdoctoral Position WM-EEG” (for position 2) in the subject line.

Applications should be submitted by July 30th, 2021 to ensure consideration. However, review of applications will continue until the positions are filled.
