Cross-cultural Comparisons with the ≠Akhoe Hai//om
The ≠Akhoe Hai//om are a group of hunter–gatherers living in the savanna of northern Namibia. Despite political and economical marginalization, many aspects of their traditional culture have been maintained. An ongoing interdisciplinary research cooperation among anthropologists, linguists, and psychologists seeks to investigate, among other things, similarities and differences between ≠Akhoe Hai//om and Germans regarding age differences in affective experiences, expressions, and the ability to understand emotions in others. We use interview techniques, behavioral observation, and experimental paradigms to pursue this aim.
